Welcome Kamrin Kennedy, Developer, Linguist, and Dinosaur Lover

So where are you from?

I’m from here. I grew up across the river in Gretna, but I’ve lived here my entire life with the exception of college. I went to LSU, so I lived in Baton Rouge for about five years.

And what were you like in high school?

I was incredibly nerdy. I went to Patrick Taylor science and technology Academy, so nerdy kids was kind of the running theme there. I was also very into theater, so I found multiple outlets to channel my nerdiness through. I also had an undeniable passion for video games. I’ll never forget winning the Smash Bros tournament that we held in an empty classroom during our lunch period.

What’s the best part of working at Revelry?

I’ve been here for three weeks now, and It’s been really great. It provides me with the stability and order that my life has been seriously lacking for some time. All of my coworkers have been incredibly welcoming and friendly. It feels as though I’m stepping into a family environment, and I’m extremely grateful. I tend to find myself in this sort of environment, whether it be school or work, and I think that’s for a reason. I love that I’ve been able to make friends with so many people that I’ve never even met in person yet.

What stood out to you about revelry as the decision to join the company?

Having known several current Revelers for years prior to even entering the field of software development, I had a sense that Revelry would provide the family work environment that I crave. I was also attracted to the fact that it is a smaller company. I like getting to know everyone on a personal level, and that no one gets lost in the mix. I appreciate companies that balance the importance of working hard with the importance of enjoying your life.

Do you have some favorite places to eat in New Orleans?

It’s very hard to narrow it down. New Orleans has so many amazing places to eat. If I had to pick just one, I would have to say it’s Dian Xin right now. They have delicious soup dumplings and a good variety of food. I crave their food constantly!

Any other favorites in the area, other favorite restaurants to shout out?

Budsi’s Thai is absolutely incredible! I was a big fan of hers when she operated as a pop-up outside of Pal’s Lounge for several years. It was part of my weekly ritual, and it’s really great that she has her own brick-and-mortar establishment so that I can have her food whenever I want.

How about if you got up on your soapbox, what can you talk about for days?

I studied a fair amount of speech formation and dialect. I took a dialects class, and we learned something called IPA, or International Phonetic Alphabet. I’ve conducted numerous speeches on how sounds and words are constructed within the mouth and all of the pieces at play. It might be a strangely specific fascination, but I find it very interesting.

Do you speak other languages or have you

I’m fairly decent with Spanish. I was very intent on learning the language as best as I could through my foreign languages classes in high school and college, and now I’ve traveled throughout Mexico fairly extensively.

Did you mention theater as one of your interests earlier?

Very much so! I’ve always had a fascination with acting, and I majored in Theatre Performance in college. Acting and especially theatre will always remain very near and dear to my heart.

What can you tell me about dinosaurs?  Specifically velociraptors?

Dinosaurs are another thing that I could get on my soapbox about for quite some time. I was 3 years old when Jurassic Park was released, and it has been my all time favorite movie ever since. I have maintained a fascination with dinosaurs to this day, and I love learning more about them at any opportunity. In terms of velociraptors specifically, I can tell you that Jurassic Park misrepresented them. In actuality, they were about three feet tall and six feet wide with feathers.
