Meet Brittney Brown, Product Manager and Weather Watcher

I’d like you to help me welcome Brittney Brown to the Product team at Revelry! She worked at two startups before finding her way to Revelry, and as a friend of the Ramos family, she actually had been hearing about the company for years. Luckily, the stars were aligned when the opportunity to join us as a Product Manager presented itself.

Brittney grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. She then moved to Tulsa to work at her first startup. While working there, she took the opportunity to move to Dallas, which is where she started working at her second startup. She lived in London from 2012-2014 with her husband and dog, Thomas, which was an exciting adventure. They moved back to Dallas and started expanding their family with the birth of her son Byron and adoption of another pup, Molly. Less than a year ago, she welcome twins into the family! A little boy, Darrow, and a girl, Elliot.

I found out that Brittney actually has 5 pets in total: an aquarium with 3 fish in addition to their two dogs: Thomas, a grumpy old Dorkie (Dachshund-Yorkie mix) and Molly, a Doxie Pin mix who loves to hunt down squirrels in the backyard.

You just never know what you’re going to find out about your colleagues, until you ask. So, I asked. Meet Brittney Brown:

Brittney, why have you chosen to work in Product?

I never set out to do what I do, but I end up in situations where I’m doing this particular kind of work. When explaining my role at Revelry, my former colleague and friend told me, “You’re exactly where you need to be.”

I have a knack for noticing procedural, team, and product-level workflows and then making changes that benefit everyone.

And what was it about Revelry that made you want to do that here?

The culture, hands down. The KSP (key selling point) was that I found that everyone believes in the process, each other, and are also high-capacity workers.

I believe the mutual trust and respect empowers everyone to work hard towards their goals, while feeling supported and heard. I wanted to be a part of a healthy work environment, where everyone strives to improve.

Revelry was it.

I like to ask this fun question: which mobile device do you use and what apps are on your home screen?

The first app I check every morning on my iPhone is the Weather Channel app to see the day’s forecast. I grew up in Oklahoma where the weather was erratic, so it was always a hot topic of conversation — and also a fascination of New Orleanians, I’ve found.

I also have my podcast app, Apple TV remote, and my “Entertain Me” folder filled with music and streaming service apps.

I hear that weather is quite a topic for you, and that you even have quite a soapbox when it comes to Oklahoma weather.

Ha, it’s true. But right now, what’s top of mind is acknowledging when you’re not an expert in something, so you can learn more and empower others. If you think you know everything about a topic, that closes off your mind to learning new things.

So I’m building a new soapbox, with room for more than just me, for discussing how to work collaboratively with a team member to come up with concepts, needs, handoffs, processes, etc. I’m all for teamwork!

What is your favorite productivity hack?

I set about a million reminders in Slack, my calendar, and otherwise. For both personal and work use. If it’s not a reminder, it probably won’t happen. But it works for me!

What non-digital product could you not live without?

Honestly, my car. I’ve gotta drive my three kids around, run errands, and I drive to a Revelry client office in Fort Worth at least once a week. Beyond that, I can’t live without my Baby Brezza: it’s like a Keurig for baby formula. With newborn twins, it’s truly a life saver.

What are your hobbies outside of work and mom-life?

I love baking sweets, cookies with royal icing, cupcakes for parties, you name it. My baby shower was a cake decorating class at a bakery in Dallas.

I also love to read, mostly fiction, nerdy stuff, and I do enjoy reading books that are soon to come out on TV or film. I recently learned to crochet and made a little Yoda and a stormtrooper.

It’s really satisfying and relaxing to make things. I was also pretty into metalsmithing before my first son was born. I would make silver jewelry, but I put it on pause with the children being young since the tools aren’t the most child-proof. But I definitely plan to get back into it when they’re a bit older!

You may have noticed that we have… a lot of Slack channels here at Revelry. Which one is your favorite?

#got – Game of Thrones, for now.

One of our channels is the #emojigovernance channel, where we can even request new Slack emoji additions! What’s your favorite emoji in the Revelry Slack?

Dancing penguin :dancing_penguin:

Well Brittney, I am so glad you’ve joined the team. What would you say is the best thing about your job?

It suits me because no two days are ever the same, as cliché as that sounds. I thrive off of the structure that the process provides, the support of the Revelry team and the client, which allows me to run and make decisions and help push the product forward.
