Think of Kubernetes as the manager for shipping containers. Originally created by Google and written in Go, Kubernetes v1.0 was released in July 2015. Google then donated it to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, which currently hosts the Kubernetes project, along with The Linux Foundation.
